The house system

Every student joins a house on their first day and stays in it until they leave. Siblings are placed together.

Margalla

Named for the hills north of the campus. Current holders of the sports shield.

Indus

Strongest in debate; has taken the Urdu declamation cup four years running.

Karakoram

Runs the annual charity drive and the winter clothing collection.

Chenab

Holds the academic shield, awarded on aggregate house performance across the year.

Student council

Twelve students are elected each September: a head boy and head girl from Grade 12, four house captains, and six class representatives from Grades 6 to 11. Candidates campaign for a week and the whole school votes.

The council is not decorative. It holds a budget for student-led events, meets the Principal fortnightly, and was responsible for the change to the break-time timetable in 2025.

  • Fortnightly meeting with the Principal, minuted
  • A budget for two student-led events each year
  • A representative on the canteen and library committees

Traditions

September

Council elections

A week of campaigning, hustings in the auditorium, then a school-wide vote.

September

Inter-house sports gala

A full day of track and field, ending with the tug-of-war and the shield presentation.

December

Winter charity drive

Run by Karakoram house; collections go to two partner organisations in Islamabad.

April

Annual prize distribution

Academic, sporting and service awards, plus the leavers' address by a Grade 12 student.

Uniform and conduct

The uniform is deliberately simple and available from two suppliers in Islamabad, so it does not become an expense that separates families.

  • Navy trousers or shalwar kameez with a white shirt
  • School tie and navy sweater in winter
  • Plain black shoes; sports kit on PE days only
  • No jewellery beyond a watch and, for girls, small studs
