Aligned to the National Curriculum, taught concept-first, and reviewed by heads of department twice a year.
What we teach, and why in that order
Our schemes of work follow the National Curriculum of Pakistan and the Federal Board syllabus for the relevant session. Within that framework we make our own decisions about sequence, depth and practice.
The principle is that understanding comes before speed. A student who can explain why a method works will reconstruct a forgotten formula under examination pressure. A student who has only memorised the formula has nothing to fall back on.
A unit at Dewan
Concept
The idea is introduced through a problem or a demonstration before any notation or terminology appears.
Practice
Deliberate practice until the routine parts are automatic, freeing attention for the difficult parts.
Application
Problems the textbook did not cover, including a practical or investigation in science subjects.
Assessment
A short unit test in board format, followed by a re-teach of whatever the class as a whole got wrong.
Curriculum principles
- Fewer topics, taught properly, beats coverage for its own sake
- Practical work in every science unit, not only before board practicals
- Writing at length in every subject, including mathematics
- Urdu taught as a living language, not only for examination
- Past papers used in the final six weeks, not as the syllabus
Homework policy
Homework consolidates what was taught. It is not used to cover material there was no time for in class.
